This VB Cookie Policy (“Cookie Policy”) explains how VB Secret Challenges (“VB”, “we”, “us” or “our”) uses cookies, browser local storage and similar technologies (collectively, “Cookies”) on the website available at https://vbsecretchallenges.com, including its pages, features and content (collectively, the “Site”). The Site is operated by Vinícius Bedum, an individual based in Brazil. In this Cookie Policy, “you” and “your” refer to any person who accesses the Site.

This Cookie Policy must be read together with the VB Privacy Policy (“Privacy Policy”), available at https://vbsecretchallenges.com/privacy, and the VB Terms of Use (“Terms”), available at https://vbsecretchallenges.com/terms, both of which are incorporated into this Cookie Policy by reference.

1. What this Cookie Policy covers

This Cookie Policy applies to the Site, in English and in Portuguese. It describes the Cookies that we set ourselves and the third-party technologies that the Site loads. It does not apply to websites or applications operated by others, even where the Site links to them.

2. What Cookies are

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. Your browser sends it back to the website with each request, which allows the website to remember information between pages or visits.

Local storage is an area of your browser in which a website may keep small records on your device. Unlike a cookie, a local storage record is not sent to the server with each request. It remains on your device until you or the website remove it.

We use one cookie of our own and three local storage records. The third-party services that the Site loads may use their own.

3. Cookies we use

3.1 Strictly necessary and preference Cookies

The following Cookies enable the Site to function or remember a choice that you made. They do not identify you, they are not used for measurement or advertising, and they do not depend on your consent.

NEXT_LOCALE

  • Type: cookie set by the Site.
  • Purpose: it records the language of the Site (English or Portuguese). It is set when the language of the page differs from the language requested by your browser, so that the Site opens again in the same language.
  • Duration: session. It is removed when you close your browser.
  • Category: preference.

vb-cookie-consent

  • Type: local storage record.
  • Purpose: it records your answer to the Cookie notice (accepted or rejected), so that the notice is not displayed again and your choice is respected.
  • Duration: until you clear the data of the Site in your browser.
  • Category: strictly necessary.

vb-theme

  • Type: local storage record.
  • Purpose: it records the theme that you chose (light or dark). If you choose to follow the system theme, the record is removed.
  • Duration: until you clear the data of the Site in your browser or choose to follow the system theme.
  • Category: preference.

vb-seen-challenges

  • Type: local storage record.
  • Purpose: it records which challenges you have already opened, and when, so that the “New” label is no longer displayed on them. Entries older than seven days are discarded when the list is updated.
  • Duration: until you clear the data of the Site in your browser.
  • Category: preference.

The three local storage records are not sent to our servers.

Human verification (Cloudflare Turnstile)

  • Type: third-party script and frame.
  • Purpose: it confirms that a challenge suggested through the form on the Site (a “Submission”) comes from a person and not from an automated program. It is loaded only when you use the form, at the step before sending. It runs in a frame served by Cloudflare, which receives technical data from your browser, such as your IP address, and may use storage of its own in order to function. We do not control that storage.
  • Duration: defined by the provider.
  • Category: strictly necessary to send a Submission.

3.2 Optional Cookies and third-party content

We load the following items only after you accept Cookies, in line with the consent requirements that apply in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Brazil. If you do not accept, none of them is loaded.

Google Analytics

  • Type: third-party script and cookies.
  • Purpose: it counts visits and shows us which pages and actions are used. It is loaded only after you accept Cookies, and only on the official address of the Site. The service sets cookies of its own, such as _ga.
  • Duration: defined by Google.
  • Category: optional.

Club frames on the manifesto page

  • Type: third-party frames.
  • Purpose: two frames on the manifesto page of the Site, available at https://vbsecretchallenges.com/manifesto, display the numbers and the recent activities of our club. They are provided by Strava, Inc. and its affiliates (“Strava”) and are loaded only after you accept Cookies. Once loaded, Strava may set cookies of its own and use its own measurement tools, which we do not control.
  • Duration: defined by Strava.
  • Category: optional.

3.3 Advertising

We do not use advertising Cookies.

4. How you can manage Cookies

4.1 The Cookie notice

On your first visit, the Site displays a notice with two options. If you select “Accept all cookies”, we may load the measurement service and the frames on the manifesto page. If you select “Reject cookies”, both remain disabled. In either case, your answer is stored on your device, in the vb-cookie-consent record. Until you answer, no optional item is loaded.

4.2 Changing your choice

The Site does not have a settings panel for this choice. To change your answer, you must clear the data of the Site in the settings of your browser. The notice will then be displayed again. If you rejected Cookies, you may also accept them later through the button displayed in place of the frames on the manifesto page, which has the same effect as accepting in the notice.

Cookies that third parties have already set remain in your browser until they expire or until you delete them in the settings of your browser.

4.3 Browser settings

The settings of your browser allow you to block or delete Cookies and the data of the Site at any time. The Site will continue to function: the language will again be determined by the preference of your browser, the theme will follow the system and the “New” labels will be displayed again.

4.4 Blocked storage

If your browser blocks storage, we cannot save your answer. The notice is not displayed, no optional item is loaded, and preferences such as the theme last only while the page is open.

5. Changes to this Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy when the Cookies used on the Site change. The date at the top of this Cookie Policy indicates the version in effect.
