Cookies and privacy

This page describes the information VB Secret Challenges stores, the third-party services it uses and how visitors can control their preferences. The site has no user accounts and displays no advertising.

Information stored

The site stores three items, all on the visitor's device. The NEXT_LOCALE cookie records the selected language (English or Portuguese); it is required to display the site in the correct language and does not identify the visitor. The vb-seen-challenges entry, kept in the browser's local storage, indicates which new challenges have already been opened, so that the "New" badge is no longer displayed. The vb-cookie-consent entry, also kept in local storage, holds the response to the cookie notice, so that it is not displayed again. These two entries are not sent to the site's servers.

Information not collected

The site has no user accounts, displays no advertising and does not collect names or email addresses. Visits are measured only when cookies have been accepted. Without acceptance, no measurement resource is loaded.

Third-party services

The site is hosted by Vercel, which keeps technical access logs. Challenge images are loaded, in the visitor's browser, from an external image server; as with any externally hosted content, that server can identify the IP address and browser in use, and the site sets no cookies on those requests. The manifesto page displays two club widgets provided by Strava. These widgets are loaded only after cookies have been accepted; once loaded, Strava may set its own cookies and use its own measurement tools, over which this site has no control. When cookies have been accepted, the site uses Google Analytics to count visits and identify the pages accessed. That service sets its own cookies, such as _ga, and sends usage data to Google, such as the pages accessed, the links and buttons used, the type of device and the approximate country.

Visitor control

Cookies and site data may be deleted at any time in the browser settings. The site remains functional: the language is again determined by the browser and the "New" badges are displayed again. To change the response to the cookie notice, delete the site data; the notice will be displayed again.
